Our History
While the Phoenix Area's population surpassed two million residents in the 1980's, only a handful of licensed individuals were providing care and medical treatment for songbirds - including those received through the Arizona Game & Fish Department and the Arizona Humane Society. As the volume of callers seeking help for hungry orphaned nestlings and broken-bodied birds was continually and dramatically increasing, there was no place for these birds to receive care! In response to the tremendous, overwhelming need in the community, a few concerned and dedicated wildlife rehabilitators united to found For the Birds Rehabilitation Foundation. Incorporated in 1989, a system through which songbirds could receive help was finally created.
