Book Review:
"Special Operations: AAF Aid to European Resistance Movements 1943-1945"

by Ron Kilber

For anyone interested in WWII history, "Special Operations: AAF Aid to European Resistance Movements 1943-1945" makes a wonderful addition for any library. The historical value and military significance of this book can bring both joy and sorrow to the hearts of WWII veterans and military enthusiasts everywhere.

The work was written by Maj. Farris G. Warren, recounting fascinating details of American airmen in support of the resistance movements in occupied European countries during World War Two. The style is easy and fun to read.

While reading this book, I was stunned to learn of the complexities of an air-drop operation into and behind enemy lines. Each new page carried me from the planning stages of an operation to the final drop zone. Not only was each mission dependent on well trained pilots and crew members, but also on disciplined resistance members on the ground. The Allied freedom fighters risked their lives while preparing a drop target, retrieving cargo and maintaining sentry posts. Anyone who was discovered by the enemy meant certain death.

"Special Operations: AAF Aid to European Resistance Movements 1943-1945" is published by Historica Aviation Publications, Reno, Nevada. They specialize in publication of U.S. government microfilm archives that relate to WWII Aviation.

With 188 pages -- packed with fascinating details of WWII -- the book is worth the $30.00 price, which includes domestic shipping and handling. It measures eight-and-a-half by eleven inches, portrait format.
