Information About
United Blood Services

United Blood Services was founded in 1943 in Phoenix, Arizona, by two wartime volunteers and a local medical society. Today, our United Blood Services network is one of the largest nonprofit blood service organizations in the United States. We are one of the founding members of the American Association of Blood Banks. We also helped form America’s Blood Centers, a consortium of more than 70 community blood centers that collects about half of the nation’s blood supply. Together, United Blood Services and the nation’s other community blood centers serve more hospitals and hospital chains and provide more direct transfusion, clinical and diagnostic services than any other U.S. organization.
