  The nodak.edu listserv doubles as the newsgroup "bit.listserv.down-syn" and may be read by any newsreader that way instead of subscribing to the mailing list. You do not have to be a subscriber to the listserv in order to post to the newsgroup, and newsgroup posts are automatically sent to the mailing list as well. However, for some odd reason, not all messages sent to the list make it to the newsgroup.
