1998 State Band Festival

Katie directs her band for the final time.
The 1998 edition of the Desert Vista Thunder Marching Band finished with a bang. The following pictorial represents a taste of what occurred on the field. It all began three years ago with the Superman show where the kids, a group formed of Sophs and Frosh, earned an Excellent at State. Last year with the kids being more matured (still without Seniors) they walked away with a Superior with Distinction for the Broadway musical production of Grease. Now this year with the unveiling of new uniforms and with the tremendous production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's Jesuschrist Superstar, the kids came of age. The 180 plus members captured the highest award possible, Superior with Distinction. No longer considered the new kids on the block, this Ahwatukee group captured the imagination of the judges by achieving captions in Auxiliary, Percussion, Marching, and Drum Majors! Way to go DV! We are very proud of all of you! What a legacy and tradition this group of Seniors leave behind. Thanks!
Here for the last time the seniors gathered once more for a group photo. Notice their awards on display.
